San Clemente Island Goats
Critically Endangered on the American Livestock Breed Conservancy listing. The San Clemente Island goat was removed from San Clemente Island in the 1980s and several thousand individual goats were placed in private homes. Since then their numbers have dwindled to about 700 animals worldwide.
Suprisingly, San Clemente Island (SCI) goats are not of Spanish origin as once thought. A 2007 DNA study of numerous goat breeds found the SCI goat is a genetically distinct breed and completely unrelated to any of the breeds in the study.
Where did they come from? What special adaptations do they have? Will their unique genetics provide livestock breeders a special trait that can improve other goat breeds?
SCI goats are small with fine bones. Their overall impression and mannerisms are deer-like. They can be shy and flighty but have gentle temperaments and are not aggressive to people. With attention they can become quite friendly and inquisitive. They are excellent mothers and live peacefully in small family groups.

Polar comes to us all the way from the East coast and brings genetic diversity to our herd with New Hampshire and Nellie-Gail bloodlines. He is a tall, athletic buck who holds his own in the field but is ever so gentle around people. Shy but smart - he is quite friendly when there is a good treat being handed out. Polar produces excellent daughters.
Wind Dancer Ranch Mateo
Mateo is a look-a-like son of Broadway Ranch Matias who is growing into an even bigger version of his Dad. He is solid bodied and balanced while retaining the necessary SCI refinement. I hope he continues to grow his long dark coat and beard.
Wind Dancer Ranch Bucardo
Bucardo stood out as a kid with his flashy wild looks and boisterous fun nature. He was named after the wild Ibex he resembles. Bucardo has a shoulder and neck conformation that allow him to be a very talented jumper and climber. Fortunately he has only used this talent jumping logs and a fallen outhouse and not his paddock's fences. We look forward to seeing how he grows and produces.

Elvis camefrom PSI Keep Ranch. He has a lovely full coat that keeps getting longer - we hope he will someday have the full coat of his sire Shetland. Elvis has a gentle and shy disposition and is well behaved. He loves living with his family and is kind to his young bucklings.
Diamond J Farm's Noche
Noche has a bold, assertive personality that I could see being of benefit to a wild goat struggling to stay alive on an island. He is big, strong, fast and graceful.
